①台儿沟很少有人家挂照片,也很少有人出去照相。镇上没有照相馆,去趟县城,跋山涉水来回五百里。谁家要是挂张照片,顿时满屋生辉,半个村子也不免热闹几天。
②山杏的哥哥来了封信,向家里要张“全家福”。信中特别提到,最想念妹妹山杏。他在南方一个小岛上当兵已经两年,走的时候山杏才八岁。
③接到哥哥的信,山杏整天催爹妈去县城照相。从春天到秋天。现在,摘完了核桃,又摘完了柿子。爹对山杏说:“明天咱们就上路。”
④山杏一晚上也没睡好。睁开眼看看,妈正弯着腰烙饼;又睁眼看看,妈还弯着腰烙饼;再睁眼看看,一摞白面饼高高地堆在桌上。她想,这不就是过年吗?过年家里也没烙过这么多白面饼。
⑤天不亮,山杏就穿上过年时的新罩衣,又叫妈妈给她拿出哥哥寄来的新鞋。妈说:“咱不,照相不如穿我做的扎花鞋。”山杏打整着自己,妈也打整着自己。山杏还从墙上摘下那块落满灰尘的小镜子,前前后后让妈照。直到爹在门口等得不耐烦了,妈才挎起了沉甸甸的篮子。
⑥他们搭了五十里汽车,走了二百里山路,喝凉水、住小店,吃了多半篮子干饼,第三天才来到县城,山杏一心想着妈在路上嘱咐过她的话:“听人说,照相馆的灯比太阳还亮,到时候再亮也不能眨眼,一眨眼就照成瞎子了。”
⑦进了照相馆,一个烫着卷发的姑娘把他们领进一间黑屋。“哗”的一下,一屋子灯都亮了——有高楼,有大厦,有鲜花,有木马……山杏的眼都不够用了。忽然间她被人拉住胳膊塞在了爹妈中间,原来照相就要开始了。烫发姑娘躲在一只木匣子后面顶起块黑布,左比划,右比划,这使山杏又想起妈在路上嘱咐过她的话。她扭头看看妈,妈已瞪起了眼睛顾不得看她;她又扭头看看爹,爹也正大睁着眼睛向前看。山杏转回头,也赶紧把眼睛瞪得圆圆的。木匣子里“咔嚓”了一声,一屋子的灯也跟着灭了。他们又摸黑走出屋子。
⑧半个月后,山杏爹从大队部拿回一个照相馆寄来的信封。山杏赶紧抢着撕开口,里面果然有张照片。谁知,上面没有大睁着眼的山杏,也没有睁大了眼的爹妈。照片上就一个人,一个正冲他们全家微笑的姑娘:额前的卷发像云彩,弯弯的眼睛像月牙儿,比照相馆那个卷头发的还好看。山杏爹妈你看看我,我看看你,谁也说不出话来。
