①每次纯净水送过来,这位师傅都匆匆忙忙。在门外脱下鞋子,穿着袜子,绕过过道,进客厅,再到饮水机旁边。我让他穿上拖鞋,他说,没时间,再说地板上很干净。

②一次,我请他抽支烟,坐一会儿。他感激地冲我笑笑,他说他下岗了,到纯净水公司承包了我们这个小区送纯净水的业务。生活还过得去,就是忙,就是累。我说:“我们都是在苦弱中挣扎,只不过用不同的方式。”他听了,得到安慰似地笑笑。

③星期天,儿子坐在沙发上看电视。这位师傅扛着水进来。儿子用手扇着鼻子,“嗯,有一股气味。”我对儿子眨眨眼,示意他别往下说。这小子不肯罢休:“你没闻到啊?一股浓烈的气味。”

④怒火中烧,我伸手就打。不料,这小子揭竿而起:“打我干吗?就是臭,臭脚臭袜子的臭。”我一下子呆住了,尴尬地止住了手。但心里还存着侥幸,希望走到门边的师傅没注意也没听见。可是,他站住了,扭过头来,满脸通红,歉疚地说:“别怪孩子,都是我没注意。”

⑤夜里,我跟孩子说:“儿子,这次我真的不能原谅你,这位送纯净水的师傅,也有一个和你一般大的在学校读书的孩子,他将一桶水送到这里,爬上五楼,一桶水只赚一块钱,流了多少汗?”儿子很委屈,“我只说臭,又没说其他的,你却要打我?”许多事,许多心情,他这个年龄,显然不懂。

⑥再来的时候,这位师傅不再是脱了鞋径直走进来,他在门外窸窸窣窣弄了好长时间。进了客厅——脚上套了两只绿色的、类似塑料袋的鞋套。一种无法言说的尴尬,在彼此间心照不宣。我劝他无须这样细心,他笑一笑,“服务总是讲究质量的。”然后匆匆地干活,匆匆地走。那双绿色的鞋套,一直让我不安。   

⑦门边有个位置!坐在沙发上抽烟,我忽然产生灵感。于是,和儿子把饮水机安置到这个地方。这样不要套什么鞋套,站在门槛一伸胳膊就可以换水。一次次地来,他好像没有在意饮水机位置的变化。我不希望他体察到我的用心,这点小小的方便,还需要别人在意么?

⑧几天前,我在小区散步。楼上的一位老人喊住了我,打量了我好半天,“好人!”一声惊叹吓了我一跳,“为什么啊?大爷!”老人说:“送水的那位师傅见人就讲,你为了让他方便,把饮水机移到门边,让家里人进门出门都不方便。”我脸一红,那点微不足道的方便,竟然被郑重地提起。

⑨老人说:“谁家的门边没有位置?再小的事,也能看出一个人,有没有在心里给别人留个位置。”
