　　著名画家齐白石一生刻印作画。他给自己起了许多别号，其中一个名为“星塘老屋后人”的别号被他刻成印章。每当他看到这枚印章的时候，白石老人便不由地想起家乡，回想起难忘的童年。因为，在这里，有他无言的“老师”。

　　齐白石开始学画的时候，没有老师教，他就画他熟悉的花草树木、河流山水以及各种小动物。可以说，大自然是他无言的老师。

　　有一次，齐白石帮父亲在田里干活。傍晚回家路过星斗塘，他坐在塘边洗脚，突然感到一阵钻心的刺痛。定眼一看，原来是一只大草虾用大钳子夹住了他的脚。这只闯祸的草虾引起了齐白石的极大兴趣。他把它翻来覆去地认真研究了一番后，又把它放在水盆里观察它游动的形态，随后便画出了他平生的第一只虾。看着纸上的虾是那么的栩栩如生，齐白石不禁惊喜万分，完全忘记了它给自己带来的痛楚，从这以后，他更加注意观察周围一切美好的、有生命的东西。他常常趴在水塘边、溪沟旁，出神地观察鱼虾在水中游动、螃蟹在地上爬行的姿态；他常常蹲在花草树木旁，仔细观察花蕊、花瓣的形状，树叶、枝干的长势，连树叶的脉络和纹路也不放过。农家的瓜果蔬菜更是他学画的好教材。所有这些他都了解得清清楚楚，默默记下，回到家里再把它们仔细地画下来。

　　长期进行细致入微的观察，久而久之，他形成了习惯。这种习惯伴随了齐白石一生，也给他的画带来了生命力。

for Meaning in a World of Noise. Here he explains himself (using his indoor voice):

     "We've become so accustomed to noise, there's about almost a deep prejudice against the idea that

silence might be beneficial. If you tell someone to be quiet, you sound like an old man. But it's never been

more important to find continuing quiet. Silence focuses us, improves our health, and is a key to lasting

peace and satisfaction."
