　　春天的时候，买一盆杜鹃回来。当时卖花的花贩，正停在巷口，他的身旁，是一拖车的花花草草，仿佛一个春天降落了。我一眼看中这盆杜鹃，花开得俏俏的，叶绿得饱饱的，实在惹人怜爱。问花贩：“这花不会死罢？”花贩有些生气：“死？我种的花，怎么会死？大前年人家买我的杜鹃，今年还长得好好的呢。”

　　立即羞惭了，觉得自己很小人似的，笑笑赶紧掏钱，价也不还地就买下。一路捧着它回家，像迎了个小女儿回来。阳台收拾得极干净，让它守着阳光最好的地方。日日跑去看，殷勤地给它喂水，像惦着一个心爱的人。花却在我的频顾望中，一朵一朵谢了。有的才含苞，也不肯开，抢着凋落。原本饱满的叶，也一日一日无精打采起来，终究，一片一片地萎了下去。花盆里，只剩秃秃的枝，轻轻一碰，断。他说：“随便移到盆里的花，哪里能成活？”不肯信，那么灿烂明艳的一盆，怎么说没就没了？不舍得扔掉它，心中怀着期待，希望某天它会重新抽枝发芽，又盛开出一盆粉红来。

　　后来，花没等来，却等来几株草。尖尖的绿脑袋，钻出盆中的土，有些探头探脑的意思，是些狗尾草。狗尾草迅速长高，迅速茂密起来，简直有些迫不及待，欣欣喜喜地伸着绿胳膊绿腿儿，花盆便满满地绿起来。

　　这草，太熟悉了。乡下的草，最疯长的，要算它。不择地的肥沃与否，种子吹到哪儿，就长到哪儿。甚至长到茅草房的屋顶上去，在屋顶上开花，毛茸茸的一枝一枝，上面缀满细细密密的籽。像翘起的狗尾巴。起风的时候，它们在屋顶上舞蹈，柔软且欢快。

　　一些断壁残垣上，大多也长着这种草。秋末的时候，狗尾草呈褐黄，一方夕阳照着，断壁残垣瞬间有了温度。暖着。女孩子爱美，乡村的日子艰难，却不能湮没美的向往。几个女孩儿，倚着墙角，拔下墙头的狗尾草，用它编戒指，十指全套上，简直富有得很了。记得一个叫田芳的女孩，家里特别贫穷，跟着瞎眼的父亲过生活，没少挨人欺负。她竖着套着狗尾草戒指的十个指头，一字一字说：“我将来长大了，一定要买一个真的金戒指戴，一定的。”语气里，有恶狠狠发誓的味道，弄得我们都很敬佩她：真的戒指呀，那该多少钱？

　　后来田芳嫁了外村一个木匠，日子起初也难，她却肯吃苦，庄稼忙完了，她忙副业，养鸡养鸭，积攒了钱，砌了小楼。去年春节我回乡下，遇见她，一眼瞥见她指上套着的金戒指，明晃晃金灿灿。她满心欢喜地告诉我：“都是我自己赚钱买的，小时哪里想到会过上这样的好日子呢。”我们对望着笑，小时的狗尾草，成片成片的，在风中摇曳。  

　　《本草纲目》里，把狗尾草唤成莠草。“莠”这个字容易让人产生偏义，多指不好。然我却很喜欢，是秀气的草啊，抑或是草里面优秀的一个。我在里面又找到这样的记载：“其茎治目痛，故方士称为光明草，阿罗汉草。”又有一说，用狗尾草籽做的枕头，清香松软，能让人安睡。我有一试的欲望。

　　现在，冬了。我花盆里的狗尾草也开始过冬了，它们安静在我的花盆里，冬眠。顶一头一身柔软的黄。这样的颜色，看着亲切，它们是故土的颜色，是亲人温暖的笑容。我有时，会静静对着它们，想一想故乡，想一想从前，还有那个叫缘分的东西。心会变得很宁静。我知道，只要有狗尾草生长，我的故乡，它就永远不会在岁月里走丢。         （作者：丁立梅）

Those who hate to pick up the weather as a conversational opening seem to me not to know the reason why human beings wish to talk. Very few human beings join in a conversation in the hope of learning anything new. Some of them are content if they are merely allowed to go on making a noise into other people's ears, though they have nothing to tell them except that they have seen two or three new plays or that they had food in a Swiss hotel. At the end of an evening during which they have said nothing meaningful for a long time, they just prove themselves to be successful conservationists.
