中国人的“尊老敬老”通常都会很明显地体现在称呼上，比如“老先生”“老人家”等，但现在老人的生活质量高、身体好，普遍显得年轻，老人心态也好，所以现在出现了一种“老哥”的叫法。

其实国外很多老人，尽管满头白发，甚至有的走路也不稳了，可心态却仍然年轻，对新事物也勇敢地去接受。这也许就有称呼上的原因，因为他们对男性均称“某某先生”，对女士都叫“某某女士”，就是在家里，小辈也可以直接喊他们的名字。

叫得年轻一点儿，就像给老人一种“您还年轻”的感觉，时间久了，老人会自然地接受这种称呼，心态因而也会变得年轻。所以，有专家建议，年轻人可以试着换个称呼，把家里老人叫年轻点儿，让老人感受到青春的气息。
