　　我觉得自己对中国、美国的教育哲学都有相当深入的认识。这两个教育哲学是相当不一样的，而这两个不同的教育哲学在怎样鼓励创新这件事情上的差异，是值得我们深思的。
　　到底这两种教育哲学哪个好，哪个不好？这是一个非常复杂的问题，要用辩证的方法来仔细了解。我认为，这两教育哲学都能够鼓励创新，不过它们各自对不同类型的学生产生的最大效应是不一样的。我觉得，美国的教育哲学对排在前面的30%—40%的学生肯定是有益的。因为这些学生不需要按部就班地训练，他们可以跳跃式学习，给了他自由，他可以自己发展出很多东西，当然他的知识不可避免地会有很多漏洞，但如果他真是很聪明的话，将来他自己可以弥补这些漏洞。所以这种学生受到美国式的教育训练，会比较快、比较容易成功。可是，亚洲的教育哲学对排在后面的30%—40%的学生较有益处。为什么呢？因为这些学生通过按部就班的训练，可以成才，而且成才之后可以跟比他聪明的人竞争；因为他有扎扎实实的知识，可以了解很多不是几天就可以学会的东西。这方面我自己有亲身的体验。
　　记得我刚到美国芝加哥大学念研究院，两三天后就看见很多同学都非常聪明，随便讲什么题目好像都知道，当时我觉得美国的同学很历害。可是过了两个月之后，我发现不是那么一回事了，因为他们对名词知道得很多，可以如果你连问他三个问题，他就回答不上来了。所以到了考试的时候，我们的分数比他们的好很多。
　　回到刚才那个问题上，究竟哪一种教育哲学比较好呢？或者说，对于学生来讲，应该看重哪一种教育哲学？我最后得出的结论是：如果你在讨论的是一个美国学生，那就要鼓励他多学一些有规则的训练；如果讨论的是一个亚洲学生，他的教育是从亚洲开始的，那么就需要多鼓励他去挑战权威，以免他太胆怯。
