       老人将店开在公路边,一开就是15年。公路边车来车往,却很少有行人下来。店里只卖紫绒花,虽然好看,生意并不好。

       15年前,老人花了一个月时间才学会了做紫绒花。他把剪得整整齐齐的红毛线用麻绳一根根系紧,扎成球,外面再扎上一层细细的紫绒线。这样,一朵紫绒花就做成了。老人的紫绒花卖得贵,5块钱一朵;而别人摊位上卖的是机器做的,2元钱一朵。但有一样,老人做的结实,除非最后因为太旧了扔掉,那中间捆得紧紧的麻绳,是永远都不会断的。

       紫绒花,可以做钥匙链,也可以当装饰。不管摆在哪儿,都一样漂亮。

       店里的货终于都卖完了,老人打算今天关门。今天是他70岁生日,也是他最后一次做紫绒花球。他太老了,手不住地颤抖,做起紫绒花越来越吃力。他没有多少钱,这最后5朵紫绒花,是他送给自己的礼物。

       看看表,已经是下午4点钟。他准备关门。正在这时,一个五六岁的小女孩推门进来了。

      “请问,您这儿卖紫绒花吗?”女孩嫩声嫩气地说。

      “从今天起不卖了。”老人缓缓地说。

       小女孩失望地看着老人,指指不远的加油站,说:“我爸爸给汽车加油了,加油站的叔叔告诉我您这儿卖紫绒花。我们是去看爷爷的,爸爸说,爷爷喜欢紫绒花。所以,我想买5朵紫绒花送给爷爷做生日礼物。”

       老人看着女孩,心里有些感动。迟疑着拿出紫绒花,问女孩:“是这样的吗?”

       女孩笑起来,说真是太漂亮了。她把花送给爷爷,他一定会非常高兴。小女孩很可爱,一笑两个小酒窝。他决定将紫绒花送给小女孩,满足她的心愿。

      “我把所有的钱都给您好吗?”说着,女孩从口袋里掏出一只小瓷罐,将瓷罐底子打开,倒出一堆钢镚儿。数了数,2元3角。

       老人笑了,说这些钱,足够买5朵紫绒花。小女孩高兴极了,抱着紫绒花跑远了。

       关了店门,老人坐到桌前,为自己倒了一杯酒。他正要喝,有人敲门。门口,一个中年男人领着小女孩,说:“真是不好意思,我给您送钱来了。”

       一瞬间,老人愣住了。中年男人看着老人,也愣住了。半晌,他呆呆地叫了一句:“爸!”

       老人的眼泪几乎都要掉下来,等了15年,他终于等回了离家出走的儿子!15年前,儿子16岁,他砸开别人家的小店,偷走了紫绒花。回到家,他狠狠地揍了儿子,叛逆的儿子从此离家出走。儿子走后他才知道,紫绒花是儿子偷来送给自己的。因为,一次醉酒后,他曾对儿子说过,看到紫绒花,他就想起他去世的妈。儿子走了,老人开始学做紫绒花,并把店开在路边,为的是儿子回来时,儿子第一个看到他。

       小女孩高兴地咧开嘴,举起紫绒花,大声说:“爷爷,生日快乐!”

     “爸爸,生日快乐!”男人说着,已经泪流满面……

LONDON Thursday July 26(Reuters)—Eddy missed his girlfriend Anna so much he flew back to Britain from Australia to propose(求婚) to her. The problem is she did the same in the opposite direction.

He and Anna even managed to miss each other when they sat in the same airport waiting room in Singapore at he same time to wait for connecting flights.
