       继阿波罗之后,18年中谁也没有探测过月球。上世纪90年代末,又兴起了新一轮的探月高潮,叫“重返月球”。现在美国、欧空局、俄罗斯、日本、乌克兰、奥地利、德国、巴西、印度和中国都提出了各自的探月计划。为什么月球探测突然又这么热闹起来了?月球不属于任何一个国家,谁先利用谁先受益,像公海一样,人家有能力到公海去打鱼,绝不会分给你中国一条。所以,月球是一个被剧烈争夺的地盘,军事上有非常重大的意义。

       21世纪对月球探测主要意义就是探索资源、能源。1994年,美国的克莱门汀号探测到月球上有水冰,1998年美国“月球勘探者号”探明了月球上钍、铀、钾、铁、钛等5种资源的全球分布。迄今为止,月球上已经探明的资源有十几种之多,而这些是对地球资源的重要补充和储备,将对人类社会的可持续发展产生深远影响。

       说到月球上的能源,主要有两种。一是太阳能。法国宣布,可以用微波的办法把月球上的太阳能输送到地球上来。如果在经度每隔120°处设一个发电站的话,那么,永远有一个站会被太阳照着,甚至两个站会被太阳照着,这样就可以向地球不间断输送能源。但是,毕竟利用太阳能是非常有限的,所以大家更关注的是第二种能源,即核聚变原料。谁都知道,太阳是连续的氢弹爆炸,产生巨大的能量。那么,能不能也像原子能发电一样,不让氢弹爆炸,而让它逐渐地、慢慢地释放出能量?这便是人类的“可控核聚变发电”的梦想。为此,人类已经研究五六十年了,也确实取得了巨大的成就,现在正在建设可控核聚变反应堆。但是,现在人类所用的原料是氢的同位素:氘(dāo)和氚(chuān)。氚是放射性的,另外,氚的反应结果要产生一个中子,很不好防护。假如用氦3代替氚,这个反应式是释放一个质子,这就比较好控制。另外,氦3是没有放射性的。月球上有多少氦3呢?大约有100万~500万吨的氦3。我们地球上有多少氦3呢?15万吨左右。我们中国全年现在要烧2亿吨石油,上千亿吨的煤,火车、轮船都不知道要用多少,巨大的投入啊!那么,用氦3替代呢?大约10吨左右。全世界的需求量是100多吨。所以,月球可以帮助地球提供至少上万年的可控核聚变原料,这对于缓解地球的能源危机无疑是一个好出路。

       另外,月球上有超高真空、没有磁场、地质构造稳定、高洁净、弱重力(只有地球的1/6)的环境。这样,在那里建立一系列的科学观测基地,可以对地球进行监测,也可以通过月球到达更遥远的空间,还可以生产各种昂贵的生物制品。因为,我们在地球上有几个问题是没有办法逃避的:巨大的重力、巨大的磁场、污染的环境,这些在月球上都可以规避。

       这个空间站可以被用来做很多很多事情,所以大家对月球产生了一种新的兴趣。
