     （2）那年要出国，特地到百货公司，买来一只很大的箱子。尼龙绳子，织染着红、黄、黑、绿四色的交错的方格图样。看起来很热闹很新潮，正像我当时的心情。出国前几个月，我细心地用各式流行的衣服、杂物等将它塞满。
     （3）出国前夕，父亲没有征得我的同意，便径自拿来一根牢固的绳子，左两圈、右两圈地将它结结实实地捆住！我眼睁睁地看着，心里懊恼极了，眼泪直在眼眶里打转，脑子里老大不甘愿地想着：谁要带这么难看、这么土气的五花大绑的皮箱出国？多没面子！然而，临别依依，我只得将一腔埋怨压抑下来！
     （4）飞机经过日本，转飞加州，当我从旧金山机场的旋转台领出那只皮箱时，我赫然发现，皮箱上的那条漂亮的、一路到底的长拉链，竟沿路开着口，满满一箱跃然欲蹦出来的东西，竟全靠那根绳子给拴住保全了！
     （5）此后，在一连串飘零的岁月里，每次我从箱子里取出蔽体保暖的衣服的时候，父亲那低着头，沉默而坚定的捆缚箱子的神情，便时时映现脑际。父亲的影像，就像那根强韧而扎实的绳子，在我最软弱的时候，化成千万股力量，拉我、牵我、缠我、持我，及时伴我走过长路，一段又一段！
     （6）而在风里，在雨里，在雪里，在异地的土地上，这根绳子，便这样，变得绵长而无尽了。
